Designing Chainmaille Jewelry for Lampwork Beads with Angie Ramey; Kaye Husko, TA Skill Level: Beginning
"DESIGNING CHAINMAILLE JEWELRY FOR LAMPWORK BEADS" by Angie Ramey; Kaye Husko, TA
In this introduction to a simple byzantine chain maille weave, you'll learn how to incorporate your own lampwork beads and utilize the versatility of chain maille to best showcase them. Students will learn basic byzantine links, wire-wrapping lampwork beads, and building these components into a finished copper bracelet, made from 16 gauge wire rings and sized to fit. All students should be able to complete their projects within the allotted class time. For those "quick learners" we'll have additional kits that can be purchased separately from the instructor for $15 if students would like to learn a second weave and begin another project.
Tools needed for class: Mandatory:Jewelry pliers...one pair each of round nose, flat nose, and chain nose (or bent nose can be used in place of chain nose if the student is more comfortable using them.) We'll provide a couple pairs of wire cutters to share, and one jump ring opener for each student to take home with them after class. The fuzzy "bead mats" are nice to keep the rings from sliding around when you are working, but they aren't really necessary. I'll try to bring a few quarter sheets of the mats with me for anyone who would like to use one.
Silver and Copper Link/Pendant with Misty Shwiyyat (aka: mistymade) Skill level: Beginner
In this class the student will create a link/pendant using silver, copper, and their own bead. They will learn how to create a pattern from their disc bead, saw metal and tubing, punch and drill holes, connect beads to metal by using a tube rivet, and use a disc cutter to punch out discs.
Tools: I will supply the tools and the student will need to bring a disc bead approximately 3/4 inch wide and safety glasses. There will be a $20-$25 fee for the metal.
